August 5, 2026
Taylor Nelson Amitrano LLP is delighted to share that founding partner A. Lavar Taylor's Insight Article was published in Bloomberg Tax on July 29, 2026, entitled "Supreme Court Denial of Tax Penalty Jury Trial Case is Surprising."
Last month, the U.S. Supreme Court denied a taxpayer's petition for review in Hirsch v. Commissioner, a case asking the Court to consider two important issues involving IRS civil tax penalties.
In this article, Lavar discusses the significance of the Supreme Court's decision to deny review of the taxpayers' Seventh Amendment jury trial challenge to IRS civil tax penalties. He further explains why the Court's refusal to hear the case is surprising, as well as the implications for taxpayers seeking to challenge IRS penalty assessments in the future. We are pleased to see Lavar's Insight Article featured in this notable national tax controversy discussion.
