Federal Sentencing Result in Nationally Watched Case
August 29, 2025
In a case that drew national attention, Jonathan Amitrano, partner at Taylor Nelson Amitrano LLP, and Diane Bass, attorney at the Law Office of Diane C. Bass, obtained a one-year-and-one-day custodial sentence for their client, Mathew Bowyer. Mr. Bowyer pled guilty to federal criminal charges for running an unlawful gambling business, money laundering, and subscribing to a false tax return.
Mr. Bowyer’s case garnered national attention due to his connection to the Los Angeles Dodgers organization and the interpreter of its star player, Shohei Ohtani.
“Mr. Bowyer deeply regrets his actions and is truly sorry for the harm he caused. He is committed to repairing the damage he has done, and he looks forward to putting this difficult chapter behind him,” Bowyer’s attorney, Jonathan Amitrano, said.
